Dr Amarachi Udoka Nkwoada is a Senior Lecturer and materials and environmental chemist at the Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO), Nigeria, with over a decade of experience in university teaching, research, postgraduate and undergraduate supervision, research development, and academic service. His research interests span materials chemistry, environmental chemistry, nanomaterials, sustainable materials, environmental remediation, catalysis, and computational approaches to materials and environmental research.
Dr Nkwoada holds a PhD in Environmental Chemistry from the Federal University of Technology Owerri, an MSc in Instrumental Analytical Sciences from Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen, UK, and a BSc in Industrial Chemistry from Abia State University, Nigeria. His research focuses on the synthesis, characterization, computational modelling, and application of functional nanomaterials, polymeric nanocomposites, biomass-derived materials, adsorbents, photocatalytic materials, and other sustainable materials for environmental and technological applications.
He is also involved with the FUTO Centre of Excellence in Sustainable Procurement, Environmental & Social Standards (CE-sPESS), a World Bank-supported Centre of Excellence at the Federal University of Technology Owerri. Through this Centre, he contributes to capacity development, training, and academic activities aligned with international standards in sustainable procurement, environmental and social standards. The Centre supports advanced education and professional development leading to BTech, PGD, MSc, and PhD training within its areas of focus, with programmes designed in accordance with relevant World Bank and international standards. He was awarded the Federal University of Technology Vice-Chancellor's Bronze Medal Scholarly Award for sustained research output during the period 2015-2025
Dr Nkwoada has authored and co-authored more than 60 scientific publications and has participated in externally supported research and collaborative projects. His research experience includes environmental pollution control, contaminant adsorption, nanocomposite development, antimicrobial materials, waste-derived materials, water treatment, catalysis, molecular docking, computational chemistry, and data-driven approaches to materials and environmental research. Dr. Nkwoada secured multiple TETFUND grants (2021–2027) as PI and Co-I, totalling over $58,000 USD for nanomaterials and environmental projects. This strong national track record positions her research for future international funding success. He is committed to interdisciplinary research, higher education, and capacity building, with a particular interest in developing sustainable scientific and technological solutions to environmental challenges while contributing to internationally relevant research, training, and academic collaboration.
