Dr Mary Njenga is a bioenergy research scientist at World Agroforestry (ICRAF) and leading the programme on sustainable bioenergy systems and related themes in Eastern and Southern Africa Region and co-leading the Eastern and Central Africa Refugee Engagement Landscape (EL) programme. She is also a visiting lecturer at the Wangari Maathai Institute for Peace and Environmental Studies, University of Nairobi. Her work involves designing, fund raising, implementing including impact assessment, gender integration and inclusion and managing trans-disciplinary research and action projects. This includes generating knowledge on appropriate technology and innovations and implications on agroecosystems, natural resources/environment including climate change and livelihoods and Circular BioEconomy (CBE) approach. She is also involved in capacity development for communities, policy makers and scientists. She is directly contributing to policy development through working closely with county and national governments.
Dr Njenga is passionate about communicate findings and lessons through various channels. Currently she has published: 34 journal papers, 7 books, 1 strategy, 39 book chapters, 5 training manuals, 17 technical and policy briefs, 6 working/sessional/white papers, 34 technical magazine and success case articles, 3 posters published and another 22 posters, 11 presentations published in conference books/journals (presented 7 of them and 2 of these as a panelist ), another 81 presentations (presented 64 of them) including as a panelist, demonstrations, training and guest lectures, 1 session moderator, 8 blogs/news articles and 7 less than 15 minutes training video clips and 2 podcast. Research Gate Score 25,6. Her aim is to contribute to improving food, nutrition and energy security, health, eliminating poverty, gender equality, sustainable ecosystems services, mitigating climate change and sustainable rural and urban development.
