Miss Nthabiseng Nhlapo's educational background includes a cocktail of food science, chemistry, microbiology, and mechanical engineering. She enjoys taking part in multidisciplinary research as she feels it broadens her scope of knowledge and skills and provides a better opportunity to develop new ideas. Her master's research involved the nutritional analysis of food served to school children as part of a national nutrition programme and also conducting the microbiological analysis of the food contact surfaces. She is currently enrolled as a doctoral student in mechanical engineering at the Central University of Technology, Free State. Her study is about the investigation of the biological and mechanical aspects of titanium alloys which have been manufactured using additive manufacturing technology and surface-modified using nanoparticles and nanofibers. These titanium alloys are envisaged to be used to manufacture biomedical implants to replace damaged bones in humans.
