Brief Biography (English)

Mr Eric Ndeh Mboumien Ngang believes that if communities are given the opportunity to sit in the driver’s seat of development processes, they can better define what development they want and contribute to achieving it. Thus he has stepped forward as a Researcher, Facilitator and Community Development Practitioner and continues to demonstrate visionary and inspirational leadership.

Mr Ngang has initiated a number of local and national projects as well as organizations. He has collaborated on different international projects centered on understanding people and their behavior as well as understanding ecosystems. One of these is the Action Group on Governance and Environmental Management (AGGEM) he Co-Founded in 2009, which uses collaborative governance and research in natural resources and environmental governance.

He has Contributed to discussions, research publications targeting diverse audiences at different levels on civil society sustainability, governance, climate change and diverse natural resource management issues. Mr Ngang equally plays an active role as a Member of many professional associations including the Association for Research on Nonprofit Action (ARNOVA) and the Association for Research on Civil Society in Africa (ARCOSA), Socio-Legal Studies Association (SLSA) UK, British Ecological Society (BES), Council for the Development of Social Research in Africa (CODESRIA) and the Africa Evidence Network (AEN).

Mr Ngang is an Alumnus of the U.S. Department of State’s Premier Professional Exchange Program, the International Visitor’s Leadership Program (IVLP) and of the Mandela Institute of Development Studies (MINDS).

He believes in giving back and contributing to building a cadre of new generation thinkers. Mr Ngang has Mentored many students and young professionals of the Queen's Young Leadership Programme, Commonwealth Scholars Mentorship Scheme and is currently a Mentor with the Collaboration for Research for Excellence in Africa (CORE) Africa Research Mentorship Scheme (CARMS) and the Birmingham Project.

Eric is a Recipient of several Awards, Scholarships and Fellowships including the Australia Awards Scholarship, Australia Awards Fellowship, the Commonwealth Professional Fellowship, the Golden Key International Honors Award.

He received the 2018 Global Challenge PhD Scholarship and is currently pursuing a PhD at the Birmingham Law School in the United Kingdom. In his PhD Research with the field support by a National Geographic Explorer Grant, he seeks to develop a deeper understanding of how law-making on climate change works, who and what is involved and what the issues and challenges are for the incorporation of Local Indigenous Knowledge and Practices (LIKP) used by communities for human and ecosystem wellbeing in Kenya as a case study.

In the course of his PhD he has contributed to the international discourse on climate adaptation through presentations at international conferences on the theme including the Adaptations Futures Conference and the Transformations Conference. He currently serves as an Expert Reviewer of the IPCC Sixth Assessment Report to be completed in 2022.
