Daniel James Ncayiyana is an Emeritus Professor at the University of Cape Town and served as a Research Director at the Human Sciences Research Council until 2016. He is President-elect of the South African Medical Association for 2017. He was Editor of the South African Medical Journal from 1993-2003. He was Deputy Vice-Chancellor at the University of Cape Town and Vice-Chancellor, Durban Institute of Technology. He was awarded an honorary Fellowship of the Colleges of Medicine (South Africa) and an honorary MD degree by the Walter Sisulu University. He has served as a consultant at universities in various countries in Africa for a variety of international organizations including the WHO, the World Bank, and USAID. He was a founding member and first general secretary of the World Association of Medical Editors (WAME).
