Prof Mwasiagi obtained his BTECH (Textile Technology) from Bharathiar University (Coimbatore) in 1991, where he was awarded the Precitex award as the best Spinning Student for 1989-90. He thereafter worked in Thika cloth Mills and Rivatex factory where he served as the Assistant to Spinning Master and Spinning Manager respectively. In February 1997 he joined Moi University as a teaching assistant. Mwasiagi did his Master's and PhD degrees at Donghua University in 1998-2000 and 2004-2009, respectively. Professor Mwasiagi currently works with Moi University as an associate Professor of textile Engineering and has vast research and teaching experience in textile technology, which includes, serving as the Head of Department for the Department of Textile Engineering, from 2002 to 2004 in Moi University, working as a professor and Chair of Yarn Manufacture courses in Bahir Dar University, Ethiopia (2013 to 2015) and serving as the Editor in Chief for African Journal for Textile and Apparel Research (AJTAR). He also serves as the local coordinator of METEGA project at Moi University (sponsored by EU), local coordinator for SPREE project (sponsored by EU), Kenyan researcher for Collaborative Research on key issues of protective textile products in emergency situations in African countries, (sponsored by China Association of Science and Technology), the external examiner of the University of Swaziland, external staff reviewer for Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, and member of the Apex body of Textile and Clothing value chain Roadmap (appointed by the Ministry of Industrialization and Enterprise Development, Nairobi Kenya.
