Dr Irene Muller started Lecturing at the North-West University (Vanderbijlpark Campus) in 2010. She is also the Natural Science Coordinator for the BEd programme on all campuses.
Her field of expertise is citizen science and social learning in environmental education.
Dr Muller engages with participants in communities via schools and students, and she supports the empowerment of citizens in social learning environments.
She is a Communal Water Quality Monitoring Specialist.
Currently, she is doing research for a PhD with Prof Johann Tempelhoff and the water management group of the Basic Science faculty.
Dr Muller monitors the dams and river on campus while promoting citizen science. Education students, majoring in Physical Science, perform the monitoring as scientists. During practical teaching, these students will test the water quality in the school community and prove that school laboratories can serve communities regarding water health.
