Dr Stanley Chindikani Msiska is a Chemical Engineer, Lecturer, and researcher at the Malawi University of Science and Technology (MUST), Malawi. His research focuses on sustainable process systems, circular bioeconomy, biorefineries, waste-to-resource technologies, renewable energy, and environmentally sustainable industrial development, with particular emphasis on applications relevant to Malawi and Sub-Saharan Africa.
His research integrates chemical engineering, process simulation, techno-economic assessment (TEA), life cycle assessment (LCA), techno-socio-economic analysis, process integration, and multi-criteria decision-making to develop technically feasible, economically viable, and environmentally sustainable solutions. His work has examined intercropped and mixed-feedstock biorefineries, agricultural biomass valorisation, decentralized biorefinery systems, sorghum stover conversion to biogas, biofertilizer and electricity, institutional waste-to-energy pathways, and waste plastic pyrolysis using biochar-based catalysts.
His publications have contributed to advancing circular bioeconomy pathways for African agriculture by demonstrating how locally available biomass residues can be transformed into energy, materials, fertilizers, and other value-added products while supporting resource efficiency, rural development, and sustainable industrialisation. He is particularly interested in context-sensitive engineering approaches that account for feedstock availability, infrastructure, economics, environmental impacts, technological capabilities, and socio-economic conditions in African settings. Msiska is involved in teaching, research supervision, academic development, and multidisciplinary research collaboration in chemical and environmental engineering. His broader research goal is to develop engineering and decision-support frameworks that accelerate the transition of African economies towards circular, low-carbon, resource-efficient, and sustainable production systems.
