Dr Rachid Mrabet Hold a PhD in Agronomy from Colorado State University (1997) and MSc in Soil Physics from joint venture of University of Minnesota (Saint Paul) and Agronomic and Veterinary Institute Hassan II (Rabat, Morocco) (1989). He holds a BSc in Agricultural Engineering from Agronomic and Veterinary Institute Hassan II (Rabat, Morocco) (1986). He's a Research Director with 31 years of career at Morocco’s National Institute of Agricultural Research (INRA)National Institute of Agricultural Research (INRA), with main research topics investigated relate to climate smart agriculture, conservation agriculture, cropping systems agronomy, soil physics & hydrology, soil quality and carbon sequestration in dry areas and crop and soil erosion process modeling. He has interests on agro-ecology, soil security and artificial intelligence. He's an expert for Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) as review editor for SR 1.5 and Coordinating Lead Author (CLA) for AR6 Group III Chap7 on Agriculture, Forestry and Other Land Use (AFOLU) and Coordinating Lead Author (CLA) for Mediterranean Experts on Climate and Environmental Change (MedECC) First Assessment Report (MAR1) Chapters on Food systems and Water. He published 17 books, 55 book chapters and 74 papers in peer-referred journals.
Dr Mrabet is a coordinator and/or member of over 40 multi-national and trans-disciplinary projects financed by different Moroccan and international donors and institutions. Editor In Chief of African & Mediterranean Agricultural Journal. Since 2003, he's been a member of Editorial Advisory Board of Soil & Tillage Research and Associate Editor of International Soil and Water Conservation Research (ISWCR) and Journal of Soil and Water Conservation (JSWC). He reviewed over 20 prestigious journals. Since 2008, he's been a councilor for World Association of Soil and Water Conservation (WASWAC) representing Africa and Deputy President (2017-22) and Co-Chairman of International Cooperation and Development Committee (2020-22). A member of African Conservation Tillage Association (Nairobi, Kenya) and Panelist for the International Conservation Agriculture Advisory Panel for Africa.
Dr Mrabet is a consultant for Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), International Center for Agriculture Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA), International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT), Ohio Automobile Dealers Association (OADA), United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), International Assessment of Agricultural Knowledge, Science and Technology for Development (IAASTD), Arab Center for the Studies of Arid Zones and Dry Lands (ACSAD), Institution of Agricultural Research and Higher Education (IRESA), Open Compute Project (OCP) Foundation, National Center for Science and Technology, National Center for Energy and Nuclear Sciences and Technologies, University of Wageningen and Cadi Ayyad University (Marrakech), private sector, Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) and member of Scientific Committee of United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCC) - COP 22.
Dr Mrabet received 5 international awards, 2 from the International Soil Tillage Research Organization (ISTRO), 1 from International Erosion Control Association (IECA), 1 from World Association of Soil and Water Conservation (WASWAC) and 1 as Coordinating Lead Author with Mediterranean Experts on Climate and Environmental Change (MedECC) (2020 North South Prize of the Council of Europe) and one National Award (the King Hassan II Innovation and Research Award in Agriculture). Dr Mrabet is an Adviser for 8 PhD and 19 MSc students from European and Moroccan Universities. Lecturer of Courses on soil physics, water conservation, conservation agriculture, erosion processes, soil contamination, irrigation and drainage, Geographic Information System (GIS) and climate change at National Universities and Engineering Schools and International Research and Development Organisations (i.e. Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), International Center for Agriculture Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA), International Centre for Advanced Mediterranean Agronomic Studies (CIHEAM), International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA-FARA) and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs).
