Dr Keleabetswe Lerato Mpye is a diligent scientist and a dedicated scholar. She herself an evolving Scientist, i.e., a seasoned Biochemist with a vested interest in biomedical research, and an aspirant Bioinformatician. Her goal is to bridge multiple disciplines with her research hence, she sought and obtained four postdoctoral research fellowships in Pharmacogenomics, Protein Biochemistry, Molecular Medicine and Bioinformatics, respectively. Her multi-disciplinary and collaborative research niche is conceptualised around the use of cell and gene therapy in medicine and the development of medical microdevice technology in diagnostics. In addition to her postdoc experience, she has worked as a university lecturer and a Biological Scientist in industry. She has supervised graduate students and mentored trainees and graduate students. She has developed a number of research proposals and protocols, in addition to conducting research activities, applying for research ethics clearance and securing research grants.
As an aspirant Professor, Dr Mpye recently completed a “Teaching in Higher Education (THE500)” course at the University of Toronto, United States. Furthermore to her research and teaching interests that are set to make a major impact on the field and in society, she possesses a strong demonstrated record of service to the research community through active participation in advisory committees and serves as an expert panellist on peer review committees. In recognition of my dedication and commitment, the Mail & Guardian bestowed on me an honour of "An influential young South African in the field of Science & Technology in 2021".
