Professor Philani Moyo is a Professor of Development Sociology at the University of Fort Hare (South Africa) and Director of the Fort Hare Institute for Social and Economic Research. He holds a DPhil in Politics and International Studies from the University of Leeds, United Kingdom; an MA in Human and Sustainable Development from the University of Leeds, United Kingdom; another MA in Social Policy and Development Studies from the University of Fort Hare and a BA Honours from the University of Zimbabwe. He is a Member of the Standing Committee on Science for the Reduction of Poverty and Inequality of the Academy of Science of South Africa (ASSAf), former Co-Chair of the South African Young Academy of Science (SAYAS) and previous Secretary of the South African Sociological Association (SASA). He has published extensively on climate change impacts and adaptation, food security, rural/urban livelihoods and migration. His two recent books are ‘Revisiting Environmental and Natural Resource Questions in Sub-Saharan Africa’ (2017) co-edited, and, ‘Urban Food Insecurity, Coping Strategies and Resistance in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe’ (2010). Prof Philani sits on the Editorial Boards of a number of international journals, including the Review of African Political Economy.
