Brief Biography (English)

Dr Lebo Motsei is currently the Director of the School and also a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Animal Science at the North-West University (NWU). Trained as an Animal Scientist, his PhD and subsequent research work involved an investigation into the effects of intravenous (IV) injection of tetracycline on mineral status and homeostasis in research animals mainly focusing on physiological responses.

More recently, Dr Motsei focused his attention on the development of experimental knowledge of the efficacy, mode of action and application of nanoparticles, herbal extracts and organic acids as feed additives to stimulate feed intake, improve immunity and growth performance. He is also involved in Developing techniques for measuring enteric methane, a greenhouse gas, production under in vitro and in vivo ruminal fermentation systems where research into mitigation strategies against methane is to commence.

Dr Motsei Serves on several committees within the university: Animal Ethics committee, Senate Research and Innovation committee, Senate Teaching and Learning Committee and also a Member of the Taung Agricultural College Council. Enthusiastic to contribute more to this interesting field of Animal Science, he is a Registered Member of the South African Society for Animal Science (SASAS) and the South African Council for Natural Scientific Professions (SACNASP).
