Dr Mike Mostovski’s research interests lie in the field of the Mesozoic palaeontology and entomology, with sporadic excursions into neighbouring pastures. He received his PhD in palaeontology in 1998 from the Paleontological Institute (Moscow). Shortly after completing his postdoctoral project at the Zoological Museum, Cambridge University, he joined the Natal Museum in 2003 as Chief Curator and later as Assistant Director for Natural Sciences at the museum until 2014. He also read invertebrate palaeontology and biostratigraphy for undergraduates at the University of KwaZulu-Natal (Westville) until 2021. Since then, Dr Mostovski’s work primarily as a Curator of Diptera at the Steinhardt Museum of Natural History. During his scientific career, he has authored or co-authored some 80 research papers, including two book chapters, as well as technical reports and practical manuals for students. He previously served as a subject editor for the Paleontological Journal and Editor-in-Chief of African Invertebrates, and he is currently a Desk Editor for the European Journal of Taxonomy and Chief Editor of the Israel Journal of Entomology. Since September 2023, Dr Mostovski is an Editor-in-Chief of Indago and the language editor for a popular magazine Culna, both published by the National Museum, Bloemfontein.
