Professor Matshwene Mosia earned a Bachelor of Science in Soil Science from the University of the North (currently University of Limpopo), MS, and a PhD in Soil Science from Colorado State University where he was a Fulbright Fellow majoring in Soil Sciences/Precision Agriculture, and he was a Post-doctoral (Machine Learning) Research Scholar at the University of Florida working with Dr Arnold Schumann on the use of Machine Learning/Artificial Intelligence to manage weeds under Plasticulture and Citrus diseases. Prof Moshia received 2 awards from the Soil Science Society of America, 1 award from the Western Soil Science Society, and another from the International Society of Precision Agriculture (ISPA) for his research work in Soil Sciences/Precision Agriculture. While at Colorado State University, he worked as a Teaching Assistant and Research Associate and obtained an A in Supervised College Teaching.
Prof Moshia has over 19 years of experience in research, teaching, and extension services. He take a friendly approach to social learning and cognitive theories to teaching and extension education. The farming communities and students at the University found this approach suitable for their learning needs. He created individualised plans and programs to facilitate a targeted, personalised approach to education while stimulating farmers’ and students’ enjoyment and appreciation for the subject of Soil Sciences and Precision Agriculture. He incorporated philosophies, regulations, and assessments into lessons while allowing for customisable creativity and flexibility. Prof Moshia also encouraged participation and progress, meeting with farmers and students at the field and classroom levels to ensure optimal subject comprehension and real-world application.
