Dr. Mong’are is a lecturer at the school of health science, Kisii University. Mong’are holds a Ph.D. from the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology. He joined Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology in 2010 as a part-time lecturer where he taught Parasitology, Fundamentals of medical microbiology, Human anatomy, and HIV/AIDS before proceeding to Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) for his research. Later, in 2019-present he joined Kisii University as a lecturer/researcher in the school of health sciences. He has 8 years’ experience of university-level teaching and research 3 public universities in Kenya. He has publications in over 10 peer-reviewed journals. He is also an internal examiner for MSc and Ph.D. theses. Currently, he has 7 MSc students for supervision drawn from two public universities in Kenya. Mong’are is a founder member of the Kenya National Young Academy of Sciences and a member of the JKUAT Union of Biochemists. He received a grant for his MSc. Research from International Foundation for Science (IFS) through Dr. Willy Tonui and for his Ph.D. studies, he received funding from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. He is also serving as a peer reviewer for Science Domain Journals. Mong’are has also presented papers on 4 national conferences. Since his high school years, he has had interest in biology more especially on drug development, epidemiology of parasitic diseases, and control of neglected diseases. Dr. Mong’are is on the process of fighting leishmaniasis and he has come up with an insecticide that can kill and reduce the fertility of Phlebotomus duboscqi sand flies. He has applied for a patent for his product before proceeding to field trials. Currently, Dr. Mong’are is working on developing a device for vector control which is cost-effective, feasible, and acceptable to the community.
