Brief Biography (English)

Dr Zamantungwa Mnisi holds a PhD in Veterinary Tropical Diseases from the University of Pretoria (2018), specialising in veterinary parasitology, molecular biology, and phylogeny. Her research focuses on vector-borne diseases, tick ecology, and the genetic diversity of pathogens affecting livestock. Dr Mnisi has a wealth of professional experience, having held key roles at the University of Limpopo, Clinvet International, and the National Institute for Communicable Diseases. She is also dedicated to community engagement as the founder and chairperson of the non-profit organisation “I am a Future Leader.” With a proven track record in supervising postgraduate students, Dr Mnisi has successfully guided six students through their MSc and PhD studies, with two more students expected to graduate in September 2024. Her students’ research covers diverse topics, from microbial profiling and metagenomic sequencing to the study of antimicrobial resistance and zoonotic diseases. Dr Mnisi has published 21 peer-reviewed papers across various international journals, contributing significantly to the fields of veterinary parasitology, next-generation sequencing, and tick-borne diseases. She holds an NRF Y rating and has successfully supervised 4 MSc and PhD students.
