Gerald Misinzo is veterinarian trained in molecular biology and veterinary virology. His research interests include mosquito-borne viral diseases such as dengue, chikungunya virus and Rift Valley fever; transboundary animal diseases that affect livelihood; food security especially peste des petits ruminants (PPR); African swine fever and severe acute respiratory infections. He was head in the Department of Veterinary Microbiology, Parasitology and Biotechnology Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA). Currently is an OR Tambo Africa Research Chair focusing on Viral Epidemics of Short-cycle Animal Stocks. He is also a Leader of the Southern African Center of Excellence for Infectious Diseases of Humans and Animals in Southern and Eastern Africa (SACIDS-ACE) and an initiative of the World Bank through the Eastern and Southern Africa Higher Education Centers of Excellence Project (ACE II).
