Dr. V. Midzi is a chief scientist in the Engineering and Geohazards Unit at the Council for Geoscience. He obtained an MSc and Dr Scient from the University of Bergen, Norway, in seismology. He is registered as a Professional Natural Scientist by the South African Council for Natural Scientific Professions. Dr Midzi has experience in various aspects of seismology though he has mainly worked in seismic hazard and risk assessment studies as well as in seismic. Dr. Midzi has worked on major continental seismic hazard studies such as GSHAP, GEM Africa, the Seismotectonic Map of Africa project and is currently involved in the seismic hazard and risk assessment of Africa. Dr. Midzi has published and reviewed many articles in peer reviewed journals. He has also actively participated in many conferences, meetings and workshops. His working experience includes training, having lectured and supervised students at undergraduate and postgraduate level over a period of five years at the National University of Science and Technology, Zimbabwe and still continues to supervise postgraduate students at universities in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Tanzania. He has conducted several training workshops in seismology and seismic data analysis in various countries on the continent.
