Professor Pieter Meyer is a Head of Department: Department Immunology, National Health Laboratory Service (NHLS) Tshwane Academic Division and Faculty of Heath Sciences, University of Pretoria.
He is a C-rated National Research Foundation (NRF) Medical Scientist researcher with a PhD in Medical Immunology (University of Pretoria, 2011). His present research interest centers on both novel proteomic biomarkers and associated molecular indices in Rheumatoid Arthritis to identify disease severity, progression, treatment efficacy and comorbidities.
He has over 30 years of extensive expertise in Allergology, Autoimmunity, Transplantation, Immunophenotyping and diagnosis of infectious diseases and manages the Department of Immunology’s under and postgraduate academic teaching and researcher programs in the Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Pretoria.
Prof Meyer has authored 32 publications in peer-reviewed journals with an average of 30 citations per year in the last 5 years (h-index=10).
