Dr Classio Joao Mendiate has a PhD in transport engineering at the Centre for Transport Studies (TRANSyT), the School of Civil Engineering, Technical University of Madrid, Spain. Currently, he is a senior transport consultant at Maputo Metropolitan Transport Agency (AMT)/Agência Francesa de Desenvolvimento (AFD) for the project of a sustainable urban mobility project for the greater Maputo region. He is an emerging transport researcher with publication in congress proceedings and in high-impact transport journals.
Dr Mendiate worked on numerous transport projects that helped to uncover transport-related problems in many cities and deliver comprehensive management strategies. He produced the draft for the transport master plan for the second and third larger Mozambican cities. The work helped to improve public transportation and define initiatives to reduce daily commuting costs in these cities. He is active in several professional organisations, including the forum of transport engineer-Spain (FIT) and the Observatory for Transport and Mobility- Mozambique (OMTM).
