Dr Mdoka is a Meteorologist by profession from the Zimbabwe Meteorological Service since 1997 to 2008/9. Dr Mdoka did his World Meteorological Organization (WMO) Class 1 Meteorology Graduate at the Bureau of Meteorology Training Centre in Melbourne Australia in 1999. He did his MSc and PhD in Environmental and Geographical Sciences within the Climate Systems Analysis Group (CSAG) at University of Cape Town focussing on climate extremes and regional climate modelling respectively. He joined Monash South Africa in July 2009 as a lecturer in Physical Geography and Climatology and later on expanded to Environmental Impact Assessment, Research Methods and Geographic Information System (GIS) modules. Dr Mdoka then moved to University of Zululand as a Senior Lecturer in Geography & Environmental Studies in 2018. Dr Mdoka is lecturing in Climatology, Applied Climatology and Research Methods whilst supervising postgraduate Students. He has more than 30 successful postgraduate students.
