Dr Sharad Master, Fellow of the Geological Society of South Africa (FGSSA), is a Researcher and Lecturer based at the Economic Geology Research Institute (EGRI) at the School of Geosciences, University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, where he obtained his degrees in geology. He spent 15 years (1980-1994) in the copper mining industry in Zimbabwe.
In 1997/8 Dr Master was awarded a post-doctoral Fellowship at Harvard University. He has spent sabbaticals in Berlin and Potsdam (Germany), and the University of California Riverside (USA). Dr Master has also visited and Lectured at other institutions in more than 50 countries. He has Published >100 works on a wide range of research interests, which include the regional geology, geochronology and metallogeny of Africa, meteorite impact structures, chemostratigraphy, palaeotsunamites, and the History of Geosciences.
Dr Master has an h-index of 17, and has over 1 300 citations. He is a Member of the South African National Committee for the International Union of Geological Sciences (IUGS)/International Geoscience Programme (IGCP), and was a Voting Delegate at six International Geological Congresses. In 2019 Dr Master was elected Vice-President for Africa of the International Commission for the History of Geological Sciences (INHIGEO). He has been a Reviewer and on the Editorial Boards, of several international earth science journals. Dr Master is currently also a Technical Director of one of the largest geological consultancies in Africa.
