Ms Mashola is an early career researcher in the field of adult neurology and is in her final year of her doctorate degree in Physiotherapy, with focus on pain after spinal cord injury. Her PhD is funded by the National Research Foundation (NRF) Thuthuka Grant. She is currently the neurology coordinator at the University of the Witwatersrand and lectures both undergraduate and postgraduate students in the fields of neurology. She has published in peer-reviewed journals and is a peer reviewer for Spinal Cord, JBI Evidence Synthesis, Malawi Medical Journal, African Journal of Disability and the South African Journal of Physiotherapy. She is also one of two vice-chairpersons for the Southern African Spinal Cord Association (SASCA). Ms Mashola was invited to give lectures at local conferences and she has also presented her research both local and international congresses such as Southern African Spinal Cord Association (SASCA), the World Confederation for Physical Therapy (WCPT) and the International Spinal Cord Society (ISCoS).
