Dr Zolile Maseko an Entomology graduate from Rhodes University in South Africa. Currently, he is working for the Centre for Biological Control (CBC) at Rhodes University. He undertook both his Masters and Doctoral degrees with the CBC in the Department of Zoology and Entomology at Rhodes University.
As an invasion biologist, his research is currently focused on the biological control of alien invasive plants, especially in the aquatic realm. He has conducted research on several biological control agents of floating invasive plants. His research involves plant-insect interactions, insect-insect interactions and population ecology. Further research interests lie in the field of freshwater ecology, where he has been involved in river health monitoring programmes in the Eastern Cape, South Africa. Dr Maseko has also been a member of the Entomological Society of Southern Africa since 2017.
He has also been active in community engagement programmes focused on citizen science as well as science education for high school learners. Involving citizenry in science, especially in the era of many environmental and ecological challenges educates communities in environmental stewardship, hence his active involvement with the community around Rhodes University.
