Professor Read Brown Mthanganyika Mapeo began his career with the Botswana Geological Survey in 1985, where he was involved in regional mapping projects. Prof Mapeo has had a long career with the Botswana Geological Survey, where he became the Head of the Regional Geology Mapping Division, in charge of training, research, and staff management. He specialises in structural geology, regional geology, and remote sensing and has been based at the University of Botswana (from 1999 to the present), where he teaches courses in structural geology, African geology, and remote sensing. His research activities encompass southern Africa's regional, geochronological and tectonic geology. He has mentored many young geologists as part of his work at the Botswana Geological Survey and the University of Botswana. He is well-published, with some of his publications appearing in international journal outlets. At the University of Botswana, he is Head of the Geology Department, a Member of the Senate, a Member of the Faculty of Science Executive Board, a Member of the Faculty of Science Board, and sits on the Faculty of Science Appointment, Promotion and Review Committee. He has worked with research teams from the United Kingdom, South Africa, Australia, the United States of America, Canada and Denmark. He has carried out consultancies mainly on structural geology, has a broad understanding of geology, and has worked extensively on mapping projects, as can be gleaned from his publications appearing in international journal outlets.
