Fazal Mahomed is a Research Professor and Director of the Department of  Science and Technology- National Research Foundation (DST-NRF) Centre of Excellence in Mathematical and Statistical Sciences (CoE-MaSS) hosted at Wits. He is the Director of the Centre for Differential Equations, Continuum Mechanics and Applications at the University of the Witwatersrand and is joint leader of the National Research Foundation research niche area on Symmetry Approaches in Differential Equations, Continuum Mechanics and Applications. He served two terms in the International Commission on Development and Exchange of the International Mathematical Union beginning in 1999.
