Prof Mark Maboeta's Research focus is that of soil ecotoxicology which is done to assess the effects of pollution on the soil environment. At present, his research group is the leading soil ecotoxicology group in southern Africa and Africa.
His standing in the research fraternity is also illustrated by his collaboration with international researchers from the Netherlands, United Kingdom, Canada, Sweden and Africa, which has led to joint Publications, Collaborative Research and applications for funding.
Prof Maboeta has also been appointed as Scientific Chair at numerous Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry (SETAC) symposia and was a Panel Member on the PhD evaluation committee of the University of South Africa (Unisa). Since 2019 he has also been appointed as Associate Editor for African Zoology to handle ecotoxicology papers.
Another dimension of his current research is the interaction between his research projects, government (policy) and industry. The reason is to address the “real-world” impact of research since he is passionate about scholarly research having societal value and impact. Prof Maboeta's vision is to see how his research is addressing current societal needs.
