Brief Biography (English)

Mr Muziwandile Luthuli is a PhD student in Social Work at the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits). He holds both a research-based Master's degree (MPhil) and a Bachelor's degree (BSW) in Social Work from the University of KwaZulu-Natal. Currently, he serves as a Lecturer at North-West University (NWU). Previously, he held positions as a Lecturer in the Discipline of Social Work within the School of Applied Human Sciences at the University of University of KwaZulu-Natal and as a Teaching Assistant at the Centre for General Education in the Faculty of Art and Design at Durban University of Technology (DUT).

Mr Luthuli's academic journey includes his role as a Research Assistant in the Division of Social and Behavioral Sciences at the University of Cape Town (UCT). He also has experience as a Junior Lecturer, where he taught the module 'Introduction to Field Data Collection and Storage,' and as an Academic Tutor at University of KwaZulu-Natal, where he taught Academic Literacy in English within the School of Art.

Mr Luthuli is deeply committed to academia and research, demonstrated by his service on the Editorial Review Board of the SAGE Journal of the International Association of Providers of AIDS Care (JIAPAC). Additionally, he serves as a referee for PLOS ONE Journal and has received several awards and honors, including the Wits Doctoral Research Scholarship, the National Research Foundation (NRF) Masters Scholarship, the Richard Ad Turner Masters Scholarship, three Cecil Renaud Merit Scholarships, three University of KwaZulu-Natal Bursary awards, the University of KwaZulu-Natal postgraduate scholarship award, and recognition from the Golden Key International Honour Society for Meritorious Service.

His research interests encompass mental health, the psychosocial aspects of HIV/AIDS, social determinants of health, treatment adherence, reproductive health, contraception, safe sexual practices, and substance use disorders. As a professional, Mr Luthuli exemplifies a strong work ethic, making significant contributions to the academic and research landscape in the fields of public mental health, reproductive health, HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment, and public health social work.
