Prof Bennie began his career as a labour inspector at the Potchefstroom Centre of the Department of Manpower (now the Department of Employment and Labour) in 1994. After three years in this position, he practices as a labour consultant for employers; first full-time in Pretoria and later part-time in Potchefstroom, while studying as an honours student in Labour Relations at the North-West University. His first academic position was as a junior lecturer from 1 January 2001 at the PU for CHE (from 1 January 2004 to the North-West University). Bennie completed the MCom degree in Industrial Sociology in 2002, and in May 2003 he visited the Tilburg University in the Netherlands to enroll for a PhD degree at this institution, which he successfully defended on 29 June 2007. Bennie’s research focused on employment relations, with a specific focus on the psychological contract between the employee and employer. He has also continuously been involved in teaching, receiving three teaching excellence awards (2008, 2013 and 2018).
