Dr Labuschgne returned to the academic environment form industry at the beginning of 2009 and join the University of Pretoria, Department of Chemical Engineering. His main field of research is Layered double hydroxides, their synthesis and uses and polymer additives in general.
To date He has raised more than R15 million in research funding and received R2 million from the National Research Foundation (NRF) National Equipment program for his research. He has published 24 peer reviewed papers with 154 citations and a Scopus h-index of 8 and Google Scholar h-index of 9 (34 publications with 236 citations). One of my papers was the University of Pretoria’s top downloaded paper for the first quarter of 2013 and another in top 20 most read paper in Journal of Vinyl & Additive Technology for 2017/2018. His field-weighted citation impact is 2.30 for the 14 scholarly outputs produced between 2014 and 2019 with a per publication citation of 3.2. Dr Labuschgene's work has also been presented at national and international conferences. He Has supervised / co-supervised numerous postgraduate students. He also hold 5 national and international patents. At the beginning of 2020 I was recognised as established researcher by receiving a C3 NRF rating.
