Brief Biography (English)

Prof Kwon-Ndung was born on the 17th of December 1964. He holds a degree in Botany and postgraduate training, MSc and PhD in Plant Genetics and Breeding. He worked as Research Officer at National Cereals Research Institute, Badeggi Niger State, and Nasarawa State University Keffi where he was appointed a Professor in 2008 and joined the Federal University Lafia in September 2012. His novel research on using mutation breeding to select resistant variants to the dreaded disease of smut in sugarcane led to the commercial release of three indigenous smut resistant industrial sugarcane varieties for commercial cultivation in Nigeria. His current research focus is on promising and breeding neglected and underutilized species. He served as Resident Scientist of NCRI at the Savanah Sugar Company Numan and led several research teams. He also served as Head of Department, Dean of Faculty and member of University Governing Council, President and Board member of the Emergency Crisis and Risk Management Institute, member of the Board of Trustees (BOT) of Bingham University Karu and member Board of Directors of Green Tree Africa Initiative. He is a member of several professional bodies and currently serving as President of the Genetics Society of Nigeria.
