In 2000, Prof Henning Krieg was appointed as Senior Lecturer and Head of the Membrane Research Group at the North-West University (NWU). In 2005 he was promoted to Associate Professor and in 2009 to Full Professor. From 2009-2012 Prof Krieg held the position of Subject Head: Chemistry in the School of Physical and Chemical Sciences.
The main thrust of his research is focused on two areas: i) organic membrane applications for hydrogen production focusing on SO2 electrolysis using PBI based membranes and ii) metal beneficiation using solvent extraction, specifically membrane-based solvent extraction (MBSX). Metal purifications and separations that have been investigated using the MBSX technology include PGM’s, Zr & Hf, Nb & Ta, Ni & Cr & Fe, U, and V.
Prof Krieg currently holds a C2 NRF rating and has given 94 oral and 42 poster presentations. His Publications include 72 peer-reviewed publications, 22 peer-reviewed conference proceedings, 7 patents and 4 chapters in books.
