Brief Biography (English)

Research institutions in South Africa and the National Research Foundation (NRF) serve as intermediaries between government policies and strategies. Therefore, the National Research Foundation (NRF) awarded Dr Kasinathan Kaviyarasu the C2 rating (which means established researcher) a year ago, which is valid for five years. Moreover, Standford University named me one of the top 2% of South African scientists in 2023 as well. Moreover, I've been named to the list of Highly Cited Researchers in 2020 & 2021 by Clarivate Web of Science. According to his understanding, Dr Kaviyarasu is among the top cited persons in the materials science field at University of South Africa (UNISA). In his current position, he is a material scientist working at the University of South Africa (UNISA) under the category of UNESCO Africa Chair in Nanosciences and Nanotechnology Laboratories.

Dr Kaviyarasu completed master’s in Physics at Loyola College (private Catholic higher education institution run by the Society of Jesus in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India) and PhD in Physics at Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, India in 2014. He continued his academic career as a assistant professor at Sri Sankara Arts & Science College (it is supported by the Shri Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham Charitable Trust, Kanchipuram) affiliated with University of Madras, India before moving to South Africa in 2015. During his role as an assistant professor, he has handled undergraduate physics subjects for undergraduate students conducting and hosting laboratory tours across nanoscience research facilities. He has served as a student coordinator to guide newly arrived newcomers (entry level) students to fit into the colleges and urban community. Dr Kaviyarasu is emerging early career researcher and has vast experience in materials science, nanotechnology and discovered new mechanism of advanced materials for low carbon emission technologies which plays a key role to mitigate climate change. His goal is to understand how to design and control the nanoscale organisation of macromolecular nanomaterials and their nanocomposites to achieve improved structure, properties, and functionality. As well as developing hydrogen-based materials, Dr Kaviyarasu is also developing materials for the energy sector. Finally, Dr Kaviyarasu believes the contribution of sustainable materials.
