Dr Olivier Kashongwe is a researcher and lecturer at the Department of Animal Sciences at Egerton University, Kenya. He currently holds a postdoctoral research position at the Leibniz Institute for Agricultural Engineering and Bioeconomy, ATB in Potsdam, Germany. At Leibniz Institute for Agricultural Engineering and Bioeconomy Dr Kashongwe works on the sustainability of livestock production as well as modelling interactions between livestock and the environment. He has about 8 years of teaching (in Kenya and Democratic Republic of Congo) and research experience. His research activities so far have focused on practices affecting milk production and quality in smallholder and pastoral systems, with the aim of reducing postharvest losses. He has supervised to completion of 4 MSc and 1 PhD students from different nationalities (Kenya, Gambia, South-Sudan and Rwanda) and several undergraduate projects at the Institut Superieur des Techniques Medicales- Bukavu, in Democratic Republic of Congo.
