Dr Linus Kambeyo was born and bred, in the northern part of Namibia, near the town called Oshakati. His career started from a humble beginning in 2003 being an ordinary primary school teacher. After further education, he became a mathematics and science secondary school teacher. After 4 years of being a secondary teacher, he was appointed in 2012 to head the department of Mathematics and Science in Oshikoto Region. Beginning of 2013, he was promoted to a Science Education officer at Rossing Foundation in Arandis. In June 2014, he was given two offers, one at National University of Science and Technology (NUST) and the other one to be a school principal in the Oshikoto region. Then he decided he wanted to venture into academia. He only stayed 6 months at the then Polytechnic of Namibia, and in January 2015 he was grabbed by Unam as a science education Lecturer. In August 2021 he got promoted to a senior lecturer position, the position he currently holds.
Academically, Dr Kambeyo attended both his primary and secondary school in the northern part of the country. Against all odds, he still excelled in his grade 12 performance. In 2002, he obtained a diploma in teaching languages with Distinction from the then Ongwediva College of Education, now the University of Namibia, HP campus. After which he taught the English language for two years before he went to further his studies in science education at the University of Zimbabwe, in Mutare, where he obtained an Advance Diploma in science teaching, with Distinction. In 2010, he obtained a BEd honours degree in science education (First class) from, Rhodes University, South Africa, and immediately got accepted into the Master’s program for science education the following year and obtained his MEd in Science Education (Upper second) in 2012. His Master's thesis focused on integrating practical works using easily accessible resources in the teaching of science subjects.
After staying only for about 6 months at National University of Science and Technology (NUST) in 2015, Dr Kambeyo was awarded a Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship to pursue PhD studies in science education for 3 years, at the University of Szeged in Hungary. He completed his PhD studies in a record time of three years and graduated with his PhD, Summa Cum Laude in 2018. His doctoral dissertation researched Assessing Namibian Students’ Abilities in Scientific Reasoning, Scientific Inquiry, and Inductive Reasoning Skills.
During his PhD studies, he published a chapter with a colleague and his supervisor in one of the Hungarian books. He also published several research papers in international journals and a few papers in our local journals in Namibia. Dr Kambeyo is an active member of the Southern African Association dedicated to the advancement of research in Mathematics, Science, and Technology Education (SAARMSTE) since 2016, and a member of the European Association of Research in Learning and Instruction (EARLI) since 2017. His research interest includes technology-based assessment, scientific reasoning, inductive reasoning, scientific inquiry skills, motivation to learn science, and teacher education.
