Brief Biography (English)

Prof Medina Kadiri obtained a Post-graduate Certificate in Environmental Assessment & Management from the Center for Environment and Management Planning (CEMP), Aberdeen, UK, 1997.

She was appointed Pioneer Commissioner of Environment & Solid Minerals, Edo State in 2000. Prof Kadiri is an Environmental Consultant, a Chartered Biologist, and a Member of the Institute of Biology (now the Royal Society of Biology), London.

She has Attended several Conferences in Cape Town, South Africa; Ottawa, Canada; Wisconsin, Maine, New Hampshire, Chicago and Florida, USA.

Prof Kadiri is a Visiting Scholar to Cheyney University of Pennsylvania, USA. She has Visited several other institutions overseas including the UNESCO-United Nations University program, in India; the Centre of Environment & Management Planning, Aberdeen, UK; the Institute of Freshwater Ecology (Freshwater Biological Association), UK; the University of California, Berkeley (Biological imaging Lab), USA; the University of California's  Berkeley Natural History Museums, USA; the Natural History Museum, UK; the University of Zurich, EAWAG Switzerland; the West Chester University, USA; the California Academy of Sciences, San Francisco, USA; The Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University, Philadelphia, USA and the Center of Marine Studies, Annamalai University, India.

Professor Kadiri is Nigeria’s Representative on the UNESCO Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) Intergovernmental Panel on Harmful Algal Blooms (IPHAB). She has Membership of professional societies such as the Botanical Society of Nigeria, the Nigerian Environmental Society, the California Academy of Sciences; the Society for Conservation Biology; the Society for Ecological Restoration, the International Phycological Society, Gender and Water Alliance and the Global Lake Ecological Observatory Network (GLEON).

She is also a Peer Reviewer for various local and international Journals. Prof Kadiri has 70 Publications in local and international Journals of repute. She is a Biographee, Marquis “WHO's WHO” in Science and Engineering in the USA; ‘WHO is WHO’ in Nigeria.

She has received numerous Academic Honours and Awards including Phi Beta Delta (Фβ∆) Honour USA for International Scholars, Post-Doctoral Fellowship Award by the Institute of Biology, London, and the Third World Organisation of Women in Science Grant for Research Development - Sub-Saharan African. Prof Kadiri is the first female Professor of Phycology in Nigeria.
