Brief Biography (English)

Professor Eliangiringa Kaale is a pharmacist and and seasoned professor of Quality Assurance and regulatory affairs and Head of R&D Lab, School of Pharmacy Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS). He has more than 19 years working experience in the health and capacity building for Medicines Regulatory system in Tanzania, Rwanda, Botswana, Afghanistan, Zambia, Eritrea and Ethiopia. His research work is in the development and validation of analytical methods, inter-laboratory cross validation studies, regulatory affairs, regulatory strengthening, regulatory staff capacity development and now interested in the development of solid dosage formulation with focus on HIV and AIDS to support local pharmaceutical industry in technology transfer.

Prof Kaale is the current chair for National Technical Committee for registration of Human Medicines of the Tanzania Medicines and Medical Devices Authority (TMDA) and National Technical committee for Pharmaceutical Standards at Tanzania Bureau of Standards. He is also the East Africa Community (EAC) external quality assurance (PT) coordinator for medicines testing laboratory, a scheme that has been running for the past seven years involving more than 20 labs organized within the framework of the EAC-PTB project “Establishment of a Quality Infrastructure for the pharmaceutical sector”. Further, he is a member of an Expert Panel for the United States Pharmacopeial (USP) Convention Review of Surveillance and Screening Technologies for the Quality Assurance of Medicines and has received an Award for Outstanding contribution to the standards.

Prof Kaale was appointed by the World Health Organization (WHO) as a member of the Expert Advisory Panel on International Pharmacopoeia and Pharmaceutical Preparations of the Expert Committee on Specifications for Pharmaceutical Preparations (ECSPP). He has published more than 80 papers in internationally peer referred journals and three Book chapters. He is a Alexander Von Humboldt visiting scholar to the Institute of Pharmacy and Food Chemistry-Julius Maximilian University of Wurzburg, Germany.
