Brief Biography (English)

Hilary Janks is a Professor Emeritus in the School of Education at the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits). She have over 40 years of experience of providing English education in a multilingual context. In 2013, she was awarded the Education Association of South Africa medal of Honour for her contribution to research in the field of education and, in 2018 was awarded the Literacy Association of South Africa Award for Significant Contribution to Literacy. She is member of the Academy of Science of South Africa (ASSAf) and fellow of the American Educational Research Association (AERA). Her publications are in the field of critical literacy pedagogy and research. Her current research is in the area of literacy and mobile technologies.
