Prof Karin Jacobs obtained her PhD in 2000 at the University of Pretoria in South Africa. She was Awarded the L’oreal–UNESCO International Fellowship for Young Women in Science (2003), the Meiring Naude Medal from the Royal Society of South Africa (2006) and the Rector’s Award for Excellence in Teaching (Stellenbosch University) (2009 & 2010, 2017). Prof Jacobs has been employed at the Department of Microbiology, Stellenbosch University, since 2005. She is a Member of the SASPP (2005-present, President 2006-2011), AMA, MSA, SASM and ISME. Prof Jacobs has successfully Supervised 15 MSc and 4 PhD students. Her Research Outputs include 1 Book, 65 Papers and numerous Conference Contributions. She is the Co-Founder of Sporatec, a commercial venture in soil health, specializing in microbial community analysis.
