Brief Biography (English)

Professor Hilary Inyang is a renowned Geoenvironmental researcher, educator and explorer, reviewer of the 2017 IPCC report and Honorary Theme Editor of the United Nation Encyclopedia of Life Support Systems (Environmental Monitoring Section). He is currently the Honorary President of the International Society of Environmental Geotechnology (ISEG) as well as the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO)-Paris Consultant on Water Security; Visiting Professor at the Indian Institute of Technology-Bombay (IIT-B); and Visiting International Research Fellow at the Africa Institute of South Africa (AISA).

Prof Inyang was most recently, a United States Ambassador’s Distinguished Scholar to Ethiopia (Called back after the COVID/Ethiopian Civil War-induced break to resume September, 2022). He is a two-time Vice Chancellor (the African University of Science and Technology (AUST), Abuja; and the Botswana International University of Science and Technology (BIUST), Palapye, Botswana); former Duke Energy Distinguished Professor of Environmental Engineering and Science and Global Institute Director at the University of North Carolina-Charlotte, United States of America; former DuPont Professor and Center Director at the University of Massachusetts Lowell, United States of America; and former Chairman of the United States Environmental Protection Agency’s Science Advisory Board (Engineering). He is the author of 276 publications on various topics in environmental systems and climate change, including the 2022 United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Guidebook on Scientific Writing. He is the winner of more than 25 professional awards.

Prof Inyang holds a PhD in Civil and Construction Engineering from Iowa State University, Nigeria. He obtained his MS in Civil and Environmental Engineering, and BSc in Civil and Environmental Engineering from North Dakota State University, United States. (1983, Oklahoma State University, United Statesa). He obtained his BSc Honours in Geology from University of Calabar, Nigeia.
