Dr. Abidemi O. Ilori was born on 2nd October 1961 in Lagos, Southwest Nigeria. He obtained a Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering in 1985 from the Obafemi Awolowo University, a Master’s degree in engineering/hydrogeology in 2001, and a doctorate in geophysics in 2012. As a civil engineer, he worked in the aviation environment for 21 years as a staff of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria from June 1987 to September 2008. He was in the pavement engineering unit most of the time as a pavement engineer. The career in the aviation industry reached its peak in 2007/2008 when he was appointed clerk of works in the reconstruction and asphalt resurfacing of Port-Harcourt International airport runway project handled by Julius Berger Nigeria PLC (an arm of Berger and Bilfinger of Germany). In September 2008, he joined the University of Uyo, as a lecturer in the department of civil engineering, and he teaches foundations and geotechnical engineering. Dr Abidemi's research interest is in Geotechnics and the application of geophysics to civil engineering systems and their foundations. He was a student member of the SEG from 2003 to 2012. Abidemi Ilori is married to Iniabasi Udoh Ilori, a medical doctor and a specialist anesthetist. They have three children; a girl and two boys.
