Professor Nelson Ijumba is Emeritus Professor of Electrical Engineering at the University of Rwanda, based in the African Centre of Excellence in Energy for Sustainable Development (ACEESD), and also an Honorary Professor of Electrical Engineering, at the University of KwaZulu Natal, South Africa. He continues to practice as a consultant in renewable energy utilization, research and innovation, and engineering education. Professor Ijumba graduated from the University of Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) and obtained his Masters and Doctoral degrees from the Universities of Salford and Strathclyde (United Kingdom), respectively. He is a Fellow of the Southern African Institution of Electrical Engineers, a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, a Member of the Institution of Engineering and Technology. Professor Ijumba is a Member of the Academy of Sciences of South Africa and a Fellow of the South African Academy of Engineering. He is a registered Professional Engineer with the Engineering Council of South Africa; the Engineering Registration Board of Tanzania, and the Institution of Engineers Rwanda; a Chartered Engineer of the United Kingdom Engineering Council. He has over 40 years of experience in teaching, research, consulting, and academic leadership. His research interests are in the areas of high voltage and power systems, the impact of technologies on sustainable development, and translation of research outputs into socially relevant innovative products. He has published widely and made presentations at international and local conferences.
