Dr Roger Ianjamasimanana is a postdoctoral fellow at the Centre for Radio Astronomy Techniques and Technologies (RATT) at Rhodes University, South Africa. He studied Physics in Madagascar before moving to South Africa to study Astronomy as part of the Human Capital Development Programme of the South Africa-Square Kilometre Array project (SA-SKA-HCD).  He received his PhD in Astronomy at the University of Cape Town in 2014 with a thesis titled "Interstellar Medium Properties and Star Formation In Nearby Galaxies". After obtaining his PhD, he moved to the University of South Africa as a postdoctoral fellow and then to the Max Planck Institute for Astronomy (MPIA, Germany) as a Georg Forster research fellow. His research focuses on the link between gas properties and star formation in nearby galaxies. He uses the MeerKAT radio telescope to map the neutral atomic hydrogen in nearby galaxies at an unprecedented column density sensitivity level.
