Dr Huddlestone is a senior lecturer in the Department of General Linguistics at Stellenbosch University. Her research focuses on negation in South African Sign Language (SASL), within a minimalist framework, however, she is also interested in other aspects of sign language linguistics, including the acquisition of SASL and the sociolinguistics of SASL. In addition, she works on aspects of the syntax and pragmatics of Afrikaans and South African English. Previous research interests include code-switching and computer-mediated communication, specifically Afrikaans-English code-switching online. She has taught undergraduate modules in most aspects of formal linguistics, as well as modules that can be characterized as Applied Linguistics, and she has supervised postgraduate research in (generative) syntax, pragmatics, mother tongue education, intercultural communication, and sign linguistics.
