Professor Johann Erich Wolfgang Holm holds a PhD in Artificial Intelligence (neural networks, mathematical optimization, statistics, and pattern recognition) from the University of Pretoria. He also obtained his BEng (Electronic) with a focus on analogue electronics and photonics and MEng (Computer Electronic) with a focus on pattern recognition, photonics, parallel computing, modelling at the University of Pretoria. Currently consultingon Systems and Systems Thinking applied to management in general, with specific application in operational applications. Research includes application of AI in operations and IoT systems. Research on Research Management, Operational Risk, and Operations Effectiveness.
Prof Holm teaches System Design, Engineering Management, Telecommunications and Electronics at honors level, and lead research into Security, Systems Engineering, Risk Management, and Operations Management at the North West University (NWU). He also worked as the Director: Professional Services at the faculty of Engineering, where he managed professional interaction between the North West University (NWU) Faculty of Engineering and industry. He was a senior lecture at the University of Pretoria lecturing, curriculum design, post graduate leadership. He also worked at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) as a System Engineer on a number of development projects.
Prof Holm is also the owner of the ElectroSoft CC, which focuses on system and product development in addition to engineering management and business process engineering. Past and present clients include Absa, FNB, Fidelity, Bidvest, Telkom, Denel Land Systems, most of the large mine groups (on mine safety and production).
