Prof Winston Hide applies systems approaches to reveal and drug critical disease processes occurring in infectious disease, cancer and neurodegeneration. Applied to discovery and prioritization of key pathways and processes, these systems approaches have been successfully adopted by industry for translational pipelines for target prioritization.

He performed his postdoctoral training at the University of Texas, Houston, at the Baylor College of Medicine and at the Smithsonian Institution Museum of Natural History. Prof Hide gained industry experience in Silicon Valley at the MasPar Computer Corporation while serving as Director of genomics.

He founded the South African National Bioinformatics Institute, where he Co-Authored the South African Government Biotechnology Strategy.
