Profs Marlien Herselman is a Chief Researchers at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) in Pretoria, South Africa. She is in the NextGen Enterprises and Institutions impact area. She is active in a number of H2020 projects and are enthusiastic Design Science Research practitioner. She was also Chairperson of the board of Living Labs in Southern Africa network (LLiSA) from its initiation in 2009-2014. Prof Herselman is an adjunct professor at the University of Pretoria (Faculty of Education), University of Fort Hare (Information systems department), Monash University (Faculty of IT), Stellenbosch University (Faculty of Industrial Engineering) and University of South Africa (UNISA) (School of Computing) where she is supervising and co-supervising Masters and Doctoral students. She holds a PhD from the University of Pretoria, South Africa and is a rated SA researcher [National Research Foundation (NRF) rating at level C].
In 2009 Prof Herselman won the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), Women in Engineering: Female scientist of the year award (South African section) and in 2016 the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) excellence award for Human Capacity Development. She has already written over 49 accredited journal articles, 3 books and has over 39 accredited conference contributions at international conferences. H-index of 24 and cited over 2000 times. Already delivered 41 Masters and 25 PhD students from 2003-19. She has over 15 years of experience as a domain expert in Information Communication for Development (specifically in Technology Education) projects where she was leading the implementation of technology in deep rural schools in South Africa (in 7 of the 9 provinces). Areas of expertise: Innovation models; Mobile & Digital Health; Rural communities and ICT4D; Educational Technology; User experience in a developing context for mobile services.
