Brief Biography (English)

Prof Rose Hayeshi is the Director of the DST/NWU Preclinical Drug Development Platform (PCDDP), North-West University, Potchefstroom, South Africa. She is also the Study Director for OECD GLP preclinical studies within the PCDDP where she Designs and Manages preclinical animal studies for the South African pharmaceutical industry and academic researchers at OECD GLP compliance standards.

Prof Hayeshi holds a PhD in Biochemistry from the University of Zimbabwe. Part of her PhD research was conducted at AstraZeneca R&D pharmaceutical company in Sweden. After a two year postdoctoral at Groningen University in the Netherlands, she spent four years as a Senior Researcher at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) in South Africa. There she developed research questions and effective experimental design for the biological evaluation of nanomedicines being developed for TB.

Her Research interests are in preclinical testing for drug development, drug metabolism, and drug transport. Prof Hayeshi has Co-Authored 23 publications in international peer-reviewed journals and two book chapters.

In 2011, she was awarded most valuable contribution in CSIR Polymers and Composites and in 2014 was Nominated for the CSIR-wide Emerging Researcher award. She is also a Member of the South Africa Young Academy of Sciences and the Africa Science Leadership Programme. Prof Hayeshi has recently been nominated for the 2019/2020 NSTF-South32 Awards for making an outstanding contribution to SET and innovation in South Africa in the category of Emerging Researcher.
