Brief Biography (English)

Dr Kwame Oppong Hackman is an applied ecologist with a background in Mathematics, GIS and Remote Sensing, and Computer Programming. He is currently a remote sensing and GIS scientist at the WASCAL (West African Science Service Centre on Climate Change and Adapted Land Use), where he provides technical support to ongoing projects, participate in and lead the development of project proposals, and co-supervise masters and PhD students on the WASCAL (West African Science Service Centre on Climate Change and Adapted Land Use) Graduate Studies and PAUWES (Pan African University Institute of Water and Energy Science) Programs. He has the following core specialities and competencies. CORE SPECIALITIES

  • Remote Sensing: Image processing tasks such as land cover classification and spectral analyses.
  • GIS: Map making, mapping of spatial features using GPS, analytical modelling including multi-criteria evaluation, geostatistical and spatial analyses.
  • Computer Programming: Proficient in the use of Matlab and Python programming languages for automating simple, medium, and relatively complex scientific tasks.
  • Ecology: Model development and application related to landscape biodiversity estimation, as well as the collection, morphological sorting, and analyses of site-based macro species data.
