Dr Nozipho Gumbi completed her PhD in Chemistry at age 29, at the University of South Africa, where she is currently employed as a Junior Lecturer.
She is involved in the Supervision of one Master's student, and Co-Supervision of two PhD students, all majoring in Chemistry. Dr Gumbi has Written 5 Publications in JCR-indexed and high impact factor Journals that have been cited numerous times.
As a young, emerging and hardworking Scientist, she has previously received several Awards and Scholarship grants, which include the Women in Science Award for 2016, which was accompanied by the TATA (Nelson Mandela) Africa Doctoral Scholarship, Awarded by the Department of Science and Technology in South Africa and Tata Africa, the prestigious DAAD short-term scholarship which enabled her to conduct part of her PhD research work at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (Institut für Funktionelle Grenzflächen) in Germany.
Dr Gumbi was also Recognized by the Mail & Guardian South African newspaper in their top 200 Young South Africans for 2016, under the Science Category. Her passion for Public Speaking has seen her Represent South Africa and young African scholars at large, at international events such as Famelab International Finals in Cheltenham (United Kingdom) and at the International Year of the Periodic Table (IYPT2019) opening ceremony at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris (France), where she illuminated hot discussions with scholars when she spoke about her state-of-the-art Research in Nanochemistry in a talk entitled “Interlink between the Periodic Table and Water treatment: A perspective of a Young African scholar”.
